Celebrate Motherhood Over 40
It says ‘selfish’ on the label

A mother of an evolution.
All over the world, the number of older women having children is dramatically on the rise.
The proportion of American women having first-time babies after 35 has increased eight-fold since 1970 (http://www NULL.cbsnews NULL.com/stories/2009/08/14/health/webmd/main5242339 NULL.shtml).
In the UK, the number of babies born to mothers over 40 has doubled in the last decade (http://www NULL.dailymail NULL.co NULL.uk/news/article-1185782/Number-babies-born-mothers-40-DOUBLED-decade NULL.html), while in Italy, 5 in every 100 babies are now born to mothers over forty.
Similar increases are reported in other countries such as Australia (http://www NULL.abs NULL.gov NULL.au/AUSSTATS/abs null@null NULL.nsf/0/7E874EFF832BAB79CA25732C002072CF?opendocument) and Canada (http://www NULL.statcan NULL.gc NULL.ca/pub/84f0210x/2007000/aftertoc-aprestdm1-eng NULL.htm).
In Spain, Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/Maria_del_Carmen_Bousada_de_Lara) was crowned the “world’s oldest mother” in 2006, after giving birth to twins at 66.
Two years later, she was trumped by 70-year-old mother of newborn twins, Omkari Panwar of India, and again by Rajo Devi Lohan, also 70, who gave birth to a daughter in Baddhu Patti in 2008.
At the turn of the millennium, they were saying ‘40 is the new 30’, when it came to pregnancy. Now, they say ‘50 is the new 40’.
The average life expectancy for women in many industrialized nations recently hit 80 and is still climbing.
It says ‘selfish’ on the label
Yet, despite the deepening trend, many over-40 mothers report that there’s a tremendous social stigma associated with being older.
Media publicity about women having babies in their 50s, 60s – and even 70s – has helped fuel public controversy about later life motherhood.
Older mothers are often criticized and labeled as ‘selfish’ and putting their own interests first.
There’s even a new maternal brand of prejudice against older mothers – procreational ageism.
This controversy (and the population of midlife moms) is growing, and no one knows for certain how this story is going to end.
Isn’t it time for the truth about motherhood after 40?
Older moms speak out at first midlife Mother’s Day tribute.
Celebrating Midlife Mother’s Day 2010 was the first initiative ever launched to dispel negative stereotypes of later life motherhood.
Over-40 mothers volunteered their intimate experiences of later-life motherhood in a series of enlightening ‘portrait-stories’, hosted online by Flower Power Mom (FPM) from 19th April to 9th May 2010.
Photographer Scott Lewis (http://www NULL.lewisimages NULL.com) donated his talent to the event, creating the first dedicated portrait gallery to witness the inner truth, strength and wisdom of mothers over 40.
Elegant commemorative ’Celebrating Midlife Motherhood’ T-shirts—with original designs donated by over-40 mother and graphic designer Joan Lintz-Thompson (joanlintz_thompson null@null yahoo NULL.com) – launched the FPM store. Go to store

People who give birth to children they neither love, want or whom they neglect are the selfish ones. I celebrate all mothers everywhere he truly love and nurture their offspring.
Hello I am a 43yr old woman with 3 half yr old twin girls and wanting to have another baby, but my husband has had a vascotomy, besides the reversal is there another way of getting live sperm from him, and reversal is too expensive and I have heard that sperm can be taken from his testicles does anyone have any ideas please
No offence to any women over forty or fifty as I totally support your right but to the 43 year old with twin girls, you have enough now.Truly.Adopt.We are overpopulated and there may be some child who would love twin sisters.
